Miss Claudia Cardinale

Embarkation day is one week from today. There are still many things on my to-do list before then and with this post I’m taking care of one of them: writing my first blog entry, which I dedicate to the little creature that came into our lives about 2 months ago and has managed to make me feel sad about leaving home.

I will miss Claudia's adolescence. I won't see her grow up and put on make up: a splash of red on her tuft and orange lipstick on her beak. When I get back, she may not be around (although cardinals are quite territorial, so maybe she'll stay). Or she may have realized that she is not really a featherless biped and that she should mistrust us. Whatever she decides to do, I consider myself very lucky to have had the chance to meet her and learn so much about her kind – everything about Claudia has been pure pleasure!

Queda una semana para el día del embarque. Todavía tengo en mi lista muchas tareas que llevar a cabo antes de ese día, y con esta publicación puedo tachar una de ellas: escribir la primera entrada de mi blog, dedicada a la criaturilla que se coló en nuestras vidas hace unos 2 meses y que ha conseguido que me sienta triste al irme.

Voy a perderme (y echar de menos) la adolescencia de Claudia. No la veré crecer y ponerse su maquillaje: una pizca de rojo en su copete y lápiz de labios naranja para su pico. Cuando regrese a casa igual ella no está (aunque los cardenales son bastante territoriales, así que a lo mejor se queda). O igual se ha dado cuenta de que no es una bípeda implume y de que no debe fiarse de nosotros. Decida lo que decida hacer, me considero muy afortunada por haber tenido la oportunidad de conocerla y de aprender tanto sobre su especie – ¡todo lo que ha tenido que ver con Claudia ha sido un puro placer!
